In a significant political shift, BJP leader and former three-time MLA, Brahm Singh Tanwar, has joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) under the leadership of party national convenor Arvind Kejriwal. The announcement was made at a formal event in Delhi on Thursday, where Kejriwal welcomed Tanwar and his supporters into the party.
Tanwar, who has previously represented Mehrauli twice and Chattarpur once in the Delhi Assembly, expressed his faith in Kejriwal's leadership and the AAP government's track record of development in the capital. Speaking to reporters, Tanwar emphasized his desire to contribute to Delhi's growth alongside Kejriwal and predicted AAP's victory in the next Delhi elections. He also mentioned that more of his supporters from BJP are expected to join AAP.
Kejriwal, celebrating Tanwar's inclusion, highlighted the veteran leader's longstanding service to Delhi over the past 50 years. The AAP chief noted the impressive developmental contributions Tanwar has made in Chhatarpur and Mehrauli. Kejriwal further pointed out the growing appeal of AAP's ideology and developmental track record as reasons why many are joining the party.
Besides local political strategies, AAP sources revealed Kejriwal's plans to campaign in states such as Maharashtra and Jharkhand, focusing on assembly seats with a strong volunteer presence for the INDIA bloc candidates, avoiding seats with controversial candidates. Kejriwal's recent legal challenges, including his arrest and release in the Delhi excise policy case, have not deterred his political activities.
