Supreme Court Halts Auction of Deceased Farmer's Land
The Supreme Court has temporarily suspended the auction of a Dalit farmer's land in Uttar Pradesh. This decision follows the petition filed by the farmer's son against the auction of the estate, initiated despite the farmer's death in 2000 after repaying part of his loan.

The Supreme Court has intervened to stop the auction of land belonging to a late Dalit farmer, Sukhram, from Uttar Pradesh. Despite repaying part of his Rs 23,049 loan from the Uttar Pradesh Cooperative Rural Development Bank Ltd., Sukhram passed away in 2000, leaving Rs 7,397 unsettled.
His son contested the auction proceedings, emphasizing that legal actions should not proceed against a deceased person. Initially, the Commissioner nullified the auction, but the High Court later upheld it. Responding to the situation, the Supreme Court took note and issued notifications to relevant parties, asserting that the status quo should be maintained.
Judges MM Sundresh and Aravind Kumar delivered the interim order on October 25. The petitioner's legal representatives, Advocates Utkarsh Singh, Md Tauheed Arshi, Mohd Humaid, and Tushar Manohar Khairnar, argue that the Allahabad High Court dismissed the petitioner's objections due to an ex-parte decision, lacking the opportunity for a fair hearing.
