In an intensified crackdown on illegal cricket broadcasts and betting, the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) has launched a multi-location raid in Mumbai and Kutch, Gujarat. This enforcement action is a part of a protracted investigation targeting Fairplay, a notorious entity embroiled in unauthorized IPL match broadcasting and numerous online betting operations.

According to an official ED release, assets worth approximately Rs 4 Crore, including cash, bank funds, and silver bars, were seized during these raids. The enforcement drive also led to the confiscation of several incriminating documents, digital devices, and property-related papers. This development stems from an FIR lodged by Viacom18 Media Pvt Limited with the Nodal Cyber Police in Mumbai, aimed at Fairplay Sports LLC, among others, under various sections of the IPC, Information Technology Act, and Copyright Act for facilitation of revenue loss exceeding Rs 100 Crore.

ED's probe unveiled a complex network helmed by Krish Laxmichand Shah, with Fairplay's operations linked to entities in Curacao, Dubai, and Malta. The investigation exposed purchases of high-value properties in India, surpassing Rs 100 Crore, by affiliates of Fairplay. In prior operations on June 12, August 27, and September 27 of 2024, ED had already frozen assets worth around Rs 113 Crore. The total seized assets in the case now stand at approximately Rs 117 Crore. Further investigation continues as authorities aim to unravel the full scope of Fairplay's illicit endeavors.
