The Northeast Frontier Railway has embarked on constructing a new Road Over Bridge (ROB) near Kampur Station in Assam's Nagaon district, under the Lumding Division. This initiative seeks to replace the level crossing gate no. ST-35 along the Guwahati-Lumding Broad Gauge line, a notorious cause of traffic congestion.
According to Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, Chief Public Relations Officer of the Northeast Frontier Railway, the construction is slated to be completed by January 2025 with an expenditure estimated at Rs. 60 crore. The current level crossing gate passes through Kampur station yard on a state PWD road, with road traffic frequently delayed due to train operations. The ROB will span over 512 meters with a 42-meter Bow String Arch Steel Girder forming its main component.
The ROB aims to mitigate road traffic congestion exacerbated by increased train traffic, thanks to a recently completed double track. Post-commissioning, it will facilitate smooth movement of people and vehicles while enhancing rail crossing safety. This development promises significant benefits for the residents of the Nagaon and Karbi Anglong districts, improving both rail and road traffic conditions.
