Karnataka BJP chief B.Y. Vijayendra took part in the 'Run for Unity' event on Tuesday, marking the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Vijayendra emphasized the statewide celebrations in Karnataka, acknowledging Patel's significant contributions, and urged the youth to remember the national icon's sacrifices.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had called for the 'Run for Unity', celebrated this year on October 29 due to the Diwali festivities. Karnataka Assembly Leader of Opposition R Ashok also joined the event in Bengaluru, expressing enthusiasm for honoring Patel's legacy. Similar events took place nationwide, involving leaders like the Chief Ministers of Tripura and Uttarakhand.
In Delhi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah highlighted the Unity Run's dual commitment to India's unity and the vision of a 'Viksit Bharat' (Developed India). Originally intended for October 31, the Unity Run was advanced due to Diwali, reinforcing PM Modi's 2015 initiative for national cohesion. Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena and Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya were present at the event.
