As the festival of lights draws near, Guwahati's residents have plunged into the joyous celebrations of Kali Puja and Diwali. Standing out this year, Vivekananda Sporting Club in the Colony Bazar area marked its Diamond Jubilee, adding splendor to the dual festivities.

The crowning glory of the celebrations is the Kali Puja pandal, modeled after Thailand's Wat Arun Temple, captivating locals and visitors alike. According to Sashanka Chakraborty, an office bearer of the club, the elaborate setup came with a budget of approximately Rs 35 lakh, underscoring the grandeur of the event.

In a conversation with ANI, Chakraborty mentioned, 'This year's theme replicates Thailand's Wat Arun Temple. With a budget around Rs 35 lakh, our celebration spans three days, commencing October 31, including philanthropic activities like blanket distribution and a blood donation drive. We anticipate thousands will join us for Kali Puja and Diwali.' Meanwhile, Fancy Bazar's bustling market dazzles with colorful lights and a wide array of firecrackers.

Diwali shoppers are thronging the markets, eager to purchase lights and firecrackers. A firecracker seller observed a surge in their sales despite slight price hikes from the previous year, indicating robust festive zeal.

Diwali, a paramount festival in India and globally, celebrates the victory of light over darkness. As families ready their homes with diyas, rangolis, and fairy lights, the anticipation is palpable.
