CM Sukhu Seeks Strategic Road Enhancements in Key Meetings with Union Ministers

In a significant push to enhance road infrastructure in Himachal Pradesh's strategic border areas, Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu met with India's Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi. The talks centered on issues faced by border residents and the necessity of upgrading key roadways vital for both civilian and military transit.
Assuring full cooperation, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh emphasized the central government's support for the state's initiatives. Accompanying CM Sukhu were Principal Advisor Ram Subhag Singh and senior state government officials.
On October 25, CM Sukhu also engaged in discussions with Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari. According to the Chief Minister's Office, discussions involved multiple road infrastructure projects, including proposed new roads and bridges. Emphasizing the crucial role of robust road networks for tourism and development, Sukhu appealed for extensive central aid.
The Chief Minister submitted a proposal for four new road projects, highlighting the need for strategic infrastructure improvements. Additionally, he urged the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to explore tunneling options to cut maintenance costs and requested a review of the realignment for the Solan-Parwanoo road due to various hazardous curves.
Further, the CM called for expediting the four-laning of the remaining sections of the Shimla-Mataur national highway. Union Minister Gadkari assured comprehensive support to the Himachal government. Principal Advisor Ram Subhag Singh and high-ranking state officials were present during these discussions.
