Cyclone Dana made landfall in Odisha early Friday, prompting calls for concerted efforts to safeguard lives and property in affected regions. Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi, through a Facebook post, urged Congress members to engage actively in relief efforts, emphasizing the necessity of governmental support in crisis management.
Rahul Gandhi advised residents in cyclone-stricken areas to adhere to government guidelines for safety. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge echoed this sentiment, appealing to the central government for comprehensive support to the affected states and rallying Congress workers to assist those impacted.
The landfall process of Cyclone Dana is finished, and it's now weakening into a deep depression. Responding to the severe weather, Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi confirmed no casualties, crediting vigilant administration and preparedness for the successful achievement of the government's zero-casualty goal.
Majhi reported that approximately 6 lakh residents were relocated to safer areas, including 6,000 pregnant women directed to health centers. The meteorological department noted the cyclone's diminished intensity and ongoing movement northward, where it will further weaken.
Relief and restoration are underway in Odisha's affected zones. Minister Suryabanshi Suraj outlined ongoing efforts to restore power once rains subside, ensuring ample resources for recovery operations. Increased evacuations were noted, with food supplies and communication systems now stabilized as the situation comes under control.
Flights have resumed at key airports in West Bengal and Odisha previously suspended due to the cyclone's impact. Western Bengal continues to experience rains as a result of Cyclone Dana. Efforts remain focused on relief and recovery in the region. (ANI)
