Cyclone 'Dana' wreaked havoc in Odisha's Bhadrak district early Friday, toppling trees and obstructing roads amidst powerful winds and relentless rain. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported wind speeds of 100-110 kmph, gusting up to 120 kmph, as the cyclone continued its north-northwestward trajectory.
According to IMD updates, the severe cyclonic storm centered over northern coastal Odisha, approximately 15 km north of Dhamra and 30 km north-northwest of Habalikhati nature camp. The storm is projected to weaken into a cyclonic storm by noon, monitored closely by the Doppler weather radar at Paradip.
Odisha Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari noted that ten districts could be affected by Cyclone 'Dana'. Evacuation efforts have concluded successfully, with 377,000 individuals relocated to over 7,300 relief centers. Prime Minister Narendra Modi reiterated central support following discussions with Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, highlighting extensive preparations, including the deployment of disaster management teams and medical personnel.
