West Bengal Governor CV Anand Bose, on Thursday, expressed his solidarity with the people amid the approaching Cyclone Dana, urging them to face the storm with confidence and patience. Bose assured that the state, and indeed the nation, would stand united in overcoming the challenge. He emphasized the importance of complying with government and disaster management directives to ensure safety.
In light of the cyclone, the Governor has canceled all his scheduled programs to monitor events from the Control Room at Raj Bhavan. This decision underscores the gravity of the situation, as the control room will play a pivotal role in coordinating responses across the vulnerable districts.
As a precaution, the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata will suspend flight operations for 15 hours starting at 6 PM on Thursday. This suspension is part of a broader set of safety measures that include the closure of schools and academic institutions as announced by the West Bengal government. The severe cyclonic storm, named Dana, is expected to hit the coasts of Odisha and West Bengal between October 24 and 25 with powerful winds reaching up to 120 kmph.
Both the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and military teams in West Bengal and Odisha are on standby to address any emergencies. This coordinated effort highlights the readiness of various state and national agencies in anticipation of Cyclone Dana's impact.
