With a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal predicted to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by October 23, Bijay Kumar Mohapatra, Odisha Director of Health Services, confirms the state's preparedness to manage ensuing challenges. According to the Indian Meteorological Department, Cyclone 'Dana' could reach Odisha and West Bengal by Thursday, accompanied by heavy rains through Friday.
Speaking to ANI, Mohapatra assured the public of the health department's proactive measures. "We anticipate cyclones yearly. Our protocol ensures no service interruptions; all providers will remain on duty. Prioritizing logistical support, we secured essential drug supplies, particularly anti-venom medications, and are ready to provide safe drinking water and continuous electricity," Mohapatra explained.
Additionally, Mohapatra highlighted surveillance for post-cyclone diarrhoea cases due to waterlogging risks. Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi also advocated calm, emphasizing zero casualties with thorough evacuation plans involving NDRF, ODRAF, and fire service teams ready to act.
Majhi discussed ensuring cyclone shelters are stocked with necessary supplies, reinstating utilities quickly, and controlling pricing on essential goods.
