As the harvest season commences in Punjab, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has presented several demands to the Centre, including increasing the procurement rate for dry harvest from 0.5% to 1%. A significant meeting on paddy procurement was held in Delhi, attended by Union Food Minister Prahlad Joshi, Minister of State for Food Ravneet Singh Bittu, and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. The discussion focused on addressing core issues and formulating strategies for efficient food grain procurement in Punjab.

Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu emphasized that the government prioritizes addressing farmer grievances. "Under Prime Minister Modi's leadership, the BJP government has consistently taken steps to empower and support Punjab's farmers, including timely sanctioning of the CCL limit for paddy procurement. Any other farmer issues will receive immediate attention," Bittu posted online. Speaking to journalists, Bhagwant Mann characterized the harvest season as a festive period, crucial to Punjab's economy. "Punjab consistently contributes significantly to the national food stock. We aim to sell 180 lakh metric tons to the Centre, but remain cautious due to past concerns," Mann commented.

The Chief Minister underscored the necessity for adequate milling facilities, stating, "We need proper milling space by November 15." Punjab currently possesses 120 lakh metric tons of rice, with clearance promised by March 31. "We requested transportation from the Centre and a procurement rate of 1% for dry harvest. They assure us these demands will be met," Mann informed the media. Meanwhile, farmer leader Balbir Singh Rajewal accused the Punjab and Delhi governments of delayed crop procurement, causing unrest among stakeholders. He cautioned about potential large-scale protests should the government fail to resolve farmers' issues.
