India is set to enhance its technological landscape by launching three Centres of Excellence (CoE) dedicated to Artificial Intelligence (AI) on October 15, in the nation's capital. Union Minister for Education Dharmendra Pradhan will lead the announcement, which underscores the country's strategic push towards AI advancements in key sectors: healthcare, agriculture, and urban sustainability.

The Ministry of Education emphasizes that these AI centres, in collaboration with leading academic bodies, industry partners, and startups, will spearhead interdisciplinary research and develop innovative solutions. This initiative is pivotal to establishing a robust AI ecosystem, honing quality human resources, and advancing the 'Viksit Bharat' mission.

The initiative aligns with the 'Make AI in India and Make AI Work for India' philosophy outlined under Para 60 of the 2023-24 Budget Announcement. It entails a substantial investment of INR 990 crore over five years, from fiscal year 2023-24 to 2027-28. An industry-led Apex Committee, co-chaired by Zoho founder Dr. Sridhar Vembu, will oversee its implementation, joining hands with governmental leaders and educational pioneers.
