Delhi's government has implemented a new ban on firecrackers, effective until January 1, in a bid to address rising pollution levels. The capital's air quality has concerned authorities, with Environment Minister Gopal Rai urging public cooperation to tackle pollution sources. 'We cannot change the weather, but we can reduce pollution,' he stated.

In a directive by the Delhi Pollution Control Committee, the prohibition encompasses all facets of firecrackers, including production, storage, distribution, and usage. Rai highlighted the importance of collective effort, suggesting that minor contributions significantly impact pollution levels and residents' health. Concurrently, the city has launched a comprehensive anti-dust campaign to combat winter-driven pollution spikes.

On Monday, the government intensified inspection operations across Delhi. During a visit to a construction site in Pritam Pura, overseen by Tevatia Construction Private Limited, Rai found poor compliance, resulting in a Rs50,000 fine. The minister stressed the need for rapid adherence to regulations, warning of potential increased penalties for repeated violations. As winter progresses, the government will employ strategic measures to mitigate pollution sources.
