In a heated session of the Kerala Assembly on Friday, VD Satheesan, Leader of the Opposition, sharply criticized Speaker AN Shamseer for his refusal to entertain an adjournment motion by the United Democratic Front (UDF). The motion sought to discuss the contentious Hema Committee report, which allegedly exposes sexual assaults in the Malayalam film industry.

The adjournment motion was brought forth by UDF MLA KK Rama, who argued that the state government's failure to register cases against those accused in the report undermines public confidence. The opposition's outcry centers on the government's perceived inaction over the report, which highlights severe allegations, including those involving minors.

Minister for Cultural Affairs Saji Cheriyan countered these claims in the Assembly, asserting that portions of the report were not withheld to protect any individuals. According to Cheriyan, certain private details were omitted upon advice from the State Information Commissioner and the Kerala High Court. He reassured that the government is committed to addressing the report's findings and is considering new legislation to tackle the issues raised.
