The government's unwavering policy support is set to elevate India as a world leader in renewable energy production, particularly in the wind energy arena. This was highlighted by industry experts on Thursday.
India currently boasts a wind energy capacity of approximately 48 GW, with the potential to enhance this by 8 GW annually, according to Suzlon Group CEO JP Chalasani, during a press meet discussing the 'Windergy India 2024' event scheduled in Chennai.
A pivotal moment for wind energy, consistent domestic manufacturing and innovation policies, alongside the reinforcement of RLMM requirements, could establish India as a cornerstone in global renewable energy production, stated Chalasani.
Senvion Wind Technology CEO Amit Kansal noted India's significant wind energy progress, featuring a capacity exceeding 47 GW in 2024. The trend of integrating wind-solar hybrid projects is reshaping the energy landscape. With a government target of 140 GW wind power by 2030 and over USD 10 billion annual investments, advancing renewable energy efforts is vital for India's sustainable development aspirations, Kansal emphasized.
WIPPA President Parag Sharma highlighted the necessity of consistent policy frameworks and timely power purchase agreements to attract investments, foster innovation, and expedite capacity expansion. Sharma advocated for strategic partnerships and supportive market dynamics to ensure wind energy's pivotal role in India's renewable future.
The Windergy India 2024 conference, commencing on October 23 at Chennai Trade Centre, will host over 300 global exhibitors. This three-day event aims to convene industry leaders, policymakers, and innovators to propel wind energy advancements, aligning with India's renewable energy objectives.
