In a bid to alleviate the financial burden on struggling farmers, the Jharkhand government has announced a significant loan waiver scheme, benefitting individuals like Sadhu Rao, who was unable to repay his Rs 50,000 loan due to the Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent droughts.

The initiative, which sees loans of up to Rs 2 lakh being waived under the Kisan Credit Card, has brought relief to many, easing their financial pressures and offering a fresh start. Hemant Soren's administration has eliminated Rs 400.66 crore in farm loans for 1.77 lakh farmers, following a previous waiver of Rs 50,000 for 4.73 lakh farmers.

Agriculture Minister Deepika Pandey Singh emphasized the government's commitment to ensuring the sustainable growth of farmers, allowing them eligibility for further loans post waiver. The move underscores the government's dedication to enhancing farmer welfare amid challenging economic conditions.
