Ecuador's government announced a significant change in leadership within its energy sector on Wednesday. President Daniel Noboa decided to replace Energy Minister Antonio Goncalves as the Andean country deals with a challenging power crisis.

A statement released on X confirmed that the current Environment Minister, Ines Manzano, will step in as the interim energy minister. Goncalves was appointed to the position just a few months ago, in July.

This ministerial reshuffle occurs as Ecuador endures power outages lasting up to 10 hours, caused by drought conditions that are diminishing water levels in hydroelectric dams, the primary source of the nation's electricity.
