In a bold move to protest against the soaring incidents of sexual crimes against minors and women in Madhya Pradesh, former minister and Congress leader, PC Sharma, embarked on a 25-hour fast. Stage a 'dharna' at Bhopal's Roshanpura intersection, Sharma initiated his protest at around 11 am on Tuesday, demanding stringent punishment for the perpetrators, including public execution.

Echoing the sentiment, MP Congress President Jitu Patwari suggested the launch of a 'Beti Bachao Abhiyan' in the state. Sharma's fast symbolized a protest during Navratri, coinciding with Kanya Pujan, where young girls, revered as 'goddesses,' have been victims of heinous crimes. Sharma called for the widespread publicity of capital punishment for rapists to instill fear among potential offenders.

Sharma made an earnest appeal to Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and the state government to act swiftly, given 35 reported rape cases in the past month. He emphasized the need for decisive measures, advocating for a one-month deadline in delivering capital punishment to offenders. Proposing technological intervention, Sharma suggested creating a 'Durga Alert' app, akin to America's Amber Alert system, to aid women in distress. Correspondence regarding this proposal has been sent to both Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
