On Wednesday, Samsung's Sriperumbudur facility saw its 31st day of worker strikes, led by the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU). The site bore witness to heightened police intervention, culminating in detentions post-scuffle over protest zones. Tensions escalated as CITU President A. Soundararajan and a union leader were among those detained.

CITU's Soundararajan has warned of significant political implications should Samsung's management continue to dismiss worker demands. Initially avoiding political engagement, the union is now rallying support, marking a potential shift in the protest's dynamics. With regional politics now in play, the ramifications could extend beyond labor issues.

In response to state urging for a return to work, Samsung announced a Memorandum of Agreement with employees, which CITU claims overlooked strikers' demands. Key grievances, such as union recognition, were sidelined. The agreement promises an interim 'Productivity Stabilisation Incentive', yet fails to quell dissent, prolonging the strike.
