India's efforts in addressing poverty, expanding electrification, and enhancing access to clean water and sanitation have received praise from Natalia Kanem, Executive Director of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). During her three-day visit to India, Kanem highlighted the dramatic improvements the country has made in recent years.

In an exclusive interview with ANI, Kanem shared her observations on India's progress. Reflecting on her experiences over three decades, she remarked on the significant reduction in poverty, advancements in electrification, and improved sanitation and water access. For Kanem, India's transformation is a source of pride for the United Nations, which has partnered in these achievements.

UNFPA's 50-year partnership with India has seen notable improvements, including a reduction in maternal mortality and child marriages by half. Kanem applauded the efforts of the Indian government and communities in ensuring development across sectors. The focus on women-led development and digital innovation are areas where India's leadership is shining, she noted.
