The Tripura government has announced stringent regulations on the use of loudspeakers and sound systems, two weeks before the Durga Puja festivities. Concerns over noise pollution prompted the move, with Director General of Police Amitabh Ranjan stressing the importance of adherence to the rules in a statement to ANI.

Multiple consultations were held between government officials, Durga Puja committee members, and police officers to ensure smooth implementation. Authorities have emphasized the need for compliance to foster a peaceful celebration. Highlighting that noise pollution is an issue during festivals nationwide, Ranjan noted existing High Court directives addressing the problem.

Firecracker noise levels have also been capped, with devices distributed to subdivisions for monitoring purposes. Regulations specify permissible decibel levels from 6 AM to 10 PM, with a strong preference for silence at night. The government will intensify patrols statewide to ensure adherence, calling on media and the public to report violations.
