In a significant move, the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) implementation in Uttarakhand received the final nod from the rules committee. Shatrughan Singh, Chairman of the Uttarakhand Uniform Civil Code Rules Committee, confirmed the completion of the UCC rules, which will soon be handed over to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. This development marks a critical step forward in actualizing the UCC in the state.

The UCC Code, passed by the state assembly eight months prior, underwent a detailed rule-making process initiated shortly after its legislative approval. The committee's efforts culminated in the final approval after meetings that have been ongoing since February. Singh emphasized that the UCC Code aims to serve the public interest, facilitating processes like registration through an online portal or app without visiting government offices.

The rules-making process saw comprehensive discussions, particularly during a key review meeting in September chaired by Chief Secretary Radha Raturi and committee member Shatrughan Singh. The meeting, held at Bijapur Guest House, involved various state departments such as Home, Police, Health, and Finance, ensuring integrated efforts from all sectors. This cohesive approach underscores the state's commitment to implementing the UCC effectively, a move initially legislated in a special session of the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly in February.
