Two students from Manipur, guided by Assam Rifles, actively participated in events during World Mental Health Week at Rashtriya Raksha University in Gujarat, according to a statement from the Inspectorate General Assam Rifles (East) on Tuesday. The five-day program, starting October 6, aims to observe World Mental Health Week.
Assam Rifles (East) highlighted that the events tackle challenges encountered by children growing up in conflict zones. The program, comprising interactive sessions, workshops, and counseling, seeks to enhance mental health by focusing on resilience, emotional intelligence, and peer support. According to the IGAR (East), the curriculum is uniquely tailored for students from conflict-affected areas.
The event underscores Assam Rifles' efforts in deradicalizing youth in conflict-ridden Manipur. Their statement reaffirmed a commitment to peace and security in the northeast while empowering communities through educational and outreach initiatives. Recent violence erupted in Manipur on May 3 last year during a protest by the All Tribals Students Union against demands for Meitei community inclusion in the Scheduled Tribe category (ANI).
