In a move heralded as both visionary and pragmatic, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has spearheaded a project to convert a pond in Chhattisgarh's Dhamtari district into the state's largest Amritsarovar. The rejuvenation initiative addresses critical water depletion concerns, aiming to recharge groundwater while simultaneously boosting local economic activities.

The state administration has successfully revitalized a nine-acre Amritsarovar from Mura pond in Kanharpuri Gram Panchayat. This transformation has increased the pond's water retention capacity from 32,400 to 57,800 cubic meters, significantly improving agricultural land irrigation capabilities. The project has revitalized 50 acres of farmland, benefitting local farmers by making it easier to rear livestock.

This rural development success story has been achieved through combined efforts of the Gram Panchayat and the South Eastern Central Railway (SECR). An agreement allowed the extraction of soil for railway use in exchange for a sizeable royalty to the Panchayat. With support from MGNREGA, the project has increased employment and created an asset for the community, marking a successful model of sustainable development and resource management.
