Shehzad Poonawala, a national spokesperson for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has openly criticized foreign-funded non-governmental organizations (NGOs), following media reports regarding their involvement in delaying economic and developmental projects across India. He labeled these NGOs as 'sleeper cells' functioning under the influence of foreign entities.
Poonawala's remarks come in light of recent reports suggesting over 75% of funds for certain NGOs originate from abroad. He accused American billionaire George Soros of strategically allocating $1 billion to disrupt India's democratic processes and economic progress, depicting such actions as threats to national sovereignty.
Additionally, Poonawala censured political leaders, particularly those from the Congress Party, for treating these media reports as absolute truths in parliamentary debates and public discussions. He expressed concern over such allegations instigating economic instability based on unverified sources.
