Buckwheat Flour Fiasco: Navratri Festivities Turn Tragic in Bijnor

Over 125 patients exhibited symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhea, with hospitals overwhelmed by admissions. Authorities have begun investigations, planning strict measures against adulteration culprits.

During the Sharadiya Navratri festival in Bijnor, a wave of illness struck several individuals on Thursday as they consumed food prepared with buckwheat flour suspected to be poisonous. Symptoms included vomiting, diarrhea, and body tremors, with hundreds seeking urgent medical assistance at local CHC centers.
Bijnor's District Magistrate, Superintendent of Police, and Chief Medical Officer, Ankit Kumar Agarwal, confirmed that 125-150 individuals exhibited symptoms of food poisoning. While some were treated locally, those in critical condition were transferred to the district hospital for continued care. Samples of the flour have been sent for testing, with authorities vowing to hold wrongdoers accountable.
Despite increased efforts from hospital staff, the health department struggled to manage the influx of patients. Both private and public hospitals are currently providing treatment to affected individuals. The CMO has also reached out to village leaders to ensure better healthcare coordination. The food department has collected samples to investigate further.
