Nepal, India, and Bangladesh Forge Historic Electricity Export Agreement

Nepal, Bangladesh, and India are set to sign an agreement on exporting electricity to Bangladesh. The deal involves the Nepal Electricity Authority, NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Limited of India, and the Bangladesh Power Development Board. Under the agreement, Nepal will earn 6.40 US cents per unit of electricity, using India's transmission lines for distribution.

Nepal, Bangladesh, and India will ink a long-awaited tripartite agreement on Thursday to export electricity to Bangladesh, an official confirmed on Wednesday.

The deal involves the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), India's NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Limited, and the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB). The NEA will receive 6.40 US cents per unit of electricity under this agreement. India's role is crucial as Nepal and Bangladesh will use Indian transmission lines for electricity distribution through its territory.

This agreement, initially scheduled for July 28 but delayed due to political changes in Bangladesh, will see Nepal selling 40 MW of electricity to Bangladesh annually during the rainy season from June 15 to November 15, with an expected earning of USD 9.216 million.
