The Gujarat Director General of Police (DGP), Vikas Sahay, emphasized the critical need for training cyber commandos as part of efforts to empower Central and state police forces to tackle growing cyber threats. Speaking on Tuesday, Sahay noted the increasing significance of cybersecurity, calling it a serious global challenge with national and international implications.
The DGP announced a six-month residential course for cyber commandos at Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU) in Gandhinagar, aimed at equipping trainees with a comprehensive understanding and advanced skills in cybersecurity. Similar courses are being introduced at various institutions across the country to bolster police capabilities.
The training program, designed by the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C) under the Ministry of Home Affairs, aligns with Prime Minister's vision to develop a specialized cyber commando force within the police. The initiative aims to train 5,000 cyber commandos over the next four to five years, involving multiple batches at RRU and other participating institutes like IITs and IIITs.
