BJP National Spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla has sharply criticized Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah following his wife's decision to surrender 14 plots allotted to her by the Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA). Poonawalla asserted that the move was a 'redemption letter' instead of the 'resignation letter' he believes Siddaramaiah should tender.
Poonawalla's comments came in a video statement where he questioned the need to surrender the plots if there was no wrongdoing, highlighting ongoing investigations by the High Court, Special Court, an FIR, and an ED case. He accused Siddaramaiah of corruption and called for his resignation, demanding clarity from Rahul Gandhi on the matter.
Adding to the criticism, Vijayapura MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal described the situation as a clear case of misuse of power and nepotism. He noted that the knee-jerk reaction of surrendering the plots after a complaint was made pointed to an acceptance of unjust land compensation. On Monday, Parvathi Siddaramaiah wrote to MUDA to return the plots, amid allegations of an illegal allotment by the Lokayukta Police.
