Around 120 people from Ladakh, including climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, who marched to the national capital demanding sixth schedule status for the Union Territory, were detained by Delhi Police at the city's border, according to police sources.

The detained individuals, including Wangchuk, were taken to Alipur and other police stations along the city border. Initially, they were requested to leave due to prohibitory orders in Delhi. However, upon refusal, they were detained by deployed policemen at the border, a police officer said.

Women participants were not detained, the source added, citing restrictions on gatherings of five or more persons in north and central Delhi. Wangchuk shared visuals on Instagram, showing extensive police presence. He noted they felt detained rather than escorted as they approached Delhi. The 'Delhi Chalo Padyatra' organized by Leh Apex Body and Kargil Democratic Alliance has seen mobilization demanding statehood and various administrative commissions.

The Delhi Police recently banned gatherings in certain areas citing law and order issues. Commissioner Sanjay Arora has imposed section 163 of Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita until October 5.
