The Border Security Force (BSF) has apprehended five Indian nationals and confiscated a truck and a bus loaded with edible items in the East Khasi Hills district, according to a press release from BSF Meghalaya on Monday.

On September 29, the 193 Battalion BSF intercepted these vehicles at the Ranikor-Dangar T-junction. The bus and truck, originating from Shillong and headed towards the border area, were found to be carrying edible items valued at approximately Rs 43,00,000, the release stated.

During the inquiry, the drivers were unable to produce valid documents for the vehicles and the goods. Consequently, the five detained individuals, along with the vehicles and seized items, were handed over to the Dangar Police Outpost.

In the previous month, BSF Meghalaya thwarted several illegal smuggling attempts along the India-Bangladesh border, seizing cattle and other contraband items worth over Rs 16 lakhs. Acting on specific intel, BSF troops from the 193 Bn confiscated a large quantity of edible and contraband items along the Indo-Bangladesh border of East Khasi Hills.

In another operation, troops from the 4th Bn BSF rescued 12 buffaloes from the border area of BOP Hawaitila, while they were being smuggled to Bangladesh. Besides these operations, BSF personnel from the 200 Bn BSF Meghalaya also seized a significant amount of clothing items en route to Bangladesh.
