Nirmala Sitharaman Pushes Regional Rural Banks to Boost Credit in Northeast
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman urged Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) to enhance credit disbursement in the Northeast under government schemes like MUDRA. Emphasizing on agriculture and allied activities, she directed National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) to promote Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) in the region.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has called upon Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) to substantially increase their credit disbursement in the Northeast region. This directive aims to bolster support under various flagship government schemes, such as MUDRA and PM Vishwakarma.
Sitharaman emphasized the need to focus credit on sectors including agriculture, horticulture, and allied activities like piggery, goatery, sericulture, and fisheries. She also instructed NABARD to promote Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) in the Northeast.
Highlighting the improved financial performance of the RRBs in the region, the minister noted a significant enhancement in technology and profitability. She further directed that every eligible individual in the Northeast should be covered under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY).
