Supreme Court Scrutinizes Safety Measures Following Kolkata Doctor's Tragic Case

The Supreme Court on Monday requested the inclusion of the National Task Force's report in the ongoing case concerning the rape and murder of a PG trainee doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The bench, led by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, called for detailed records while hearing the suo motu petition.

Previously, the court had formed a National Task Force to address safety concerns and develop an action plan to prevent gender-based violence and ensure a dignified workspace for medical professionals. During the hearing, the court inquired about the West Bengal government's progress on safety installations, including CCTV, toilets, and biometrics.

Senior Advocate Dwivedi explained that the delays were due to floods but assured completion by October 15. Advocate Vrinda Grover highlighted alarming social media posts revealing the victim's identity. Senior Advocate Karuna Nundy reported AI-generated reels based on the incident. The Supreme Court reiterated its order to remove such posts and noted substantial findings in the CBI's ongoing probe. The court will resume the hearing post-Dussehra vacation.
