The newly elected Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Udhayanidhi Stalin, attended a women's empowerment event on Monday, organized by the Women's Development Corporation and the Rural Development and Panchayats department. At the event, Stalin presented state-level 'Mani Megalai' awards to the best-performing self-help groups in rural and urban areas of Tamil Nadu.
Addressing the gathering, Udhayanidhi Stalin emphasized the government's proactive measures for women's welfare, allocating Rs 93 crore for the cause. He contrasted these efforts with the previous AIADMK regime, claiming that more funds had been dispersed in three years than in the entire ten years of AIADMK rule. 'During the AIADMK regime, the Manimegala awards were halted, but we have reinitiated them under the Dravidian Model government,' he remarked.
This event marked Udhayanidhi Stalin's first major public appearance since his appointment as Deputy Chief Minister on September 28, following a significant cabinet reshuffle. The reshuffle also saw the re-entry of Senthil Balaji into the Tamil Nadu cabinet. Chief Minister MK Stalin has also recommended inducting V. Senthil Balaji, Dr. Govi Chezhiaan, R. Rajendran, and S.M. Nasar into the Council of Ministers, with Udhayanidhi Stalin assigned additional portfolios.
