The Sealdah Court on Monday ordered the judicial custody of former Tala Police Station officer-in-charge Abhijit Mondol and Sandip Ghosh, ex-principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, until October 4. Both were accused in the rape and murder case of a trainee doctor at the Kolkata-based institution and were presented via video link from presidency jail.
Last week, Mondol and Ghosh were transferred to the Presidency Jail from Sealdah Court. On September 19, the West Bengal Medical Council revoked Sandip Ghosh's medical practitioner registration.
Ghosh and Mondol were apprehended by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the rape and murder case. Additionally, Ghosh faced charges related to financial irregularities at the college. The CBI's probe into these incidents followed a directive from a single bench of the Calcutta High Court investigating corruption and financial mismanagement allegations at the institution. Abhijit Mondal was suspended by Kolkata Police on September 18 after his CBI arrest on September 14.
A woman trainee doctor was found dead in RG Kar Medical College's seminar hall on August 9, prompting the investigations. (ANI)
