In a significant leadership transition, Air Chief Marshal AP Singh assumed the role of the chief of the Indian Air Force on Monday, succeeding Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari who retired after a three-year tenure.

Previously serving as the Vice Chief of the Air Staff, Singh was born on October 27, 1964, and joined the Indian Air Force as a fighter pilot in December 1984. His career spans nearly four decades, marked by diverse command, staff, instructional, and international assignments.

Singh, a National Defence Academy, Defence Services Staff College, and National Defence College alumnus, is an accomplished Qualified Flying Instructor and Experimental Test Pilot boasting over 5,000 flying hours. He led the MiG-29 Upgrade Project in Moscow and oversaw the flight testing of the Light Combat Aircraft, Tejas, among other critical roles.

The new Air Chief has held key staff positions, including Air Defence Commander at the South Western Air Command and Senior Air Staff Officer at the Eastern Air Command. Prior to his new appointment, he was the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Central Air Command. (ANI)
