A high-profile co-convict of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Prakash Jarwal in the Dr. Rajender Singh suicide case has taken the matter to the Delhi High Court. The hearing for this case has been slated for October 18.

During today's trial court session, Kapil Nagar's counsel requested an adjournment, citing the High Court development. Consequently, Special Judge Kaveri Baweja set the next hearing for October 21.

Justice Amit Mahajan summoned the trial court's physical records on September 27. Previously, on August 30, he had quashed Harish Jarwal's conviction after a settlement was reached on August 10.

Harish Jarwal contested the February 28 conviction by the Rouse Avenue Court under Section 506 (Criminal Intimidation) of the IPC, stating that the offence is compoundable based on the complainant's instance.

Senior counsels Ravi Sood and Saurabh Agarwal, representing the petitioner, argued that their client was only charged under Section 506, Part-I of the IPC. Following the submissions, the High Court overturned the February 28 conviction, provided the petitioner pays Rs 30,000 to the Delhi Police Welfare Society within eight weeks.

The Court emphasized that since state machinery was activated and a settlement arrived late in the process, imposing costs on the petitioner was justified. An FIR was initially registered at Police Station Neb Sarai in 2020.
