In a meticulously planned operation, forest officials successfully captured and tranquillized a tigress identified as T-83 in the Chichpalli forest range of Chandrapur district on Saturday. The operation was initiated following increasing movements of the tigress in residential settlements, posing a potential threat to local residents.

The tranquillization process went smoothly in compartment no. 717, located in the Janala area. Led by Forest Range Officer Priyanka Velme, the team of sharp shooters and wildlife experts ensured the safety of both the tigress and the public. 'Our priority was to minimize stress on the animal and prevent any danger to humans,' Velme stated.

Conducted under the supervision of the District Forest Officer (DFO), the operation also highlighted a series of similar interventions over the year. From January to December 2023, a total of 12 tigers and 8 leopards have been captured in the Gadchiroli and Chandrapur Circles. Earlier this year, fatal tiger attacks were reported in Gadchiroli, leading to safety measures to avoid such incidents in the future.

Residents of Chandrapur have been advised to stay vigilant and report any wildlife sightings to forest officials to ensure ongoing safety and swift action.
