Security measures have been heightened in Sopore, Baramulla district, ahead of the final phase of Assembly elections scheduled for October 1. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sopore, Divya D, confirmed that extensive arrangements have been made at all polling booths in adherence to the Election Commission of India's (ECI) guidelines.
"The third phase of elections is set to take place in Sopore and the entire North Kashmir. We've established a robust security grid. Campaigning concluded at 6 p.m., and we've entered the mandated silence period in all assembly constituencies," SSP Divya D told ANI. "Security protocols are fully operational, and we're prepared for the polls," she added.
Earlier, Jammu and Kashmir police and other security forces reviewed the security measures across the region for the final phase. Baramulla DIG Maqsood Ul Zaman visited the constituency and expressed satisfaction with the arrangements. "We've set up the Baramulla Constituency distribution and collection centre as per ECI guidelines. I'm satisfied with the adherence to the directives," DIG Zaman stated.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) of the Kashmir Zone, VK Birdi, chaired a meeting on Sunday to review the law and order situation in Srinagar. Held at the Police Control Room Kashmir, the meeting included senior officers from the police, security forces, and intelligence agencies. The discussions ensured that preparations for the third phase of elections are complete. Elections are taking place in three phases, with the first and second phases held on September 18 and 25, respectively.
The vote counting is scheduled for October 8, marking the first Assembly elections in the Union Territory since the abrogation of Article 370, after a decade-long hiatus.
