Heavy rainfall on Sunday caused severe waterlogging in the Ambaji area of Banaskantha district, disrupting normal life and creating significant inconvenience for commuters. Relentless downpours resulted in near-flood conditions, with many vehicles partially submerged in rainwater.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for further heavy rainfall and lightning in various parts of Gujarat for Sunday evening. The IMD stated that moderate thunderstorms and gusty winds, reaching speeds of 40-60 kmph, are likely to accompany heavy rain in isolated locations, including Amreli district.
The IMD also forecast light thunderstorms and moderate rain for other districts, including Junagarh, Gir Somnath, and Rajkot, among others. Light rain is expected in several areas, including Devbhoomi Dwarka and Gandhinagar. In Vadodara, heavy rains flooded low-lying areas, raising water levels in the Vishwamitri River. The city received 76 mm of rain within two hours, leading to widespread waterlogging and disruptions.
According to the latest IMD bulletin, most of Gujarat is expected to remain dry for the first three days of Navratri, except for some districts in South Gujarat. Light to moderate rain is anticipated in these areas, allowing Garba festivities in other parts to proceed without disruption.
