The encounter, which is still ongoing, resulted in injuries to two Jammu-Kashmir police officers who were subsequently airlifted for medical treatment. Earlier, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Jammu, Anand Jain, had confirmed comprehensive security measures ahead of the third phase of assembly polls in the Union Territory.
ADGP Jain reassured reporters on Sunday that search operations for terrorists continue, and necessary arrangements are in place to prevent disruptions during the upcoming elections. He emphasized that security forces are vigilant to thwart any terrorist activities or violence.
On Saturday, a police officer was killed and two other security personnel sustained injuries in an encounter with terrorists in Village Kog (Mandli), Kathua district. The martyred head constable, Bashir Ahmed, made the ultimate sacrifice while engaging the terrorist, as confirmed by the J-K Police.
ADGP Jain detailed that the operation commenced following intelligence on the presence of three to four terrorists in the area. The exchange of gunfire led to the fatal wounding of head constable Ahmed, while Deputy Superintendent of Police Sukhbir and Assistant Sub-Inspector Niaz Ahmed were also injured but are now stable.
