Indian Army Boosts Artillery Might with Major Modernization

The Indian Army is significantly enhancing its artillery capabilities along the China frontier by procuring advanced weapons systems, including K9 Vajra howitzers, hypersonic missiles, swarm drones, and surveillance tools. Led by Lt. Gen. Adosh Kumar, the modernization effort aims to address evolving national security challenges and bolster battlefield effectiveness.

The Indian Army is making significant strides in bolstering its artillery capabilities along the border with China. In a bid to enhance its combat effectiveness, the Army is procuring an additional 100 K9 Vajra howitzers, among other advanced warfare systems such as swarm drones, loitering munitions, and surveillance equipment.

Lieutenant General Adosh Kumar, Director General of Artillery, emphasized the need for modernizing artillery units to meet national security demands. Ahead of the 198th anniversary of the Artillery Regiment, Lt. Gen. Kumar told reporters, 'We are modernising at a pace like never before and as per defined timelines.'

Further adding to these developments, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is working on creating hypersonic missiles capable of flying at speeds five times that of sound. Lt. Gen. Kumar stated that improvements in missile range, accuracy, and lethality are being prioritized, with significant advancements also being made in surveillance and target acquisition technologies.
