Four individuals, including three children, sustained injuries in separate animal attack incidents in Uttar Pradesh's Bahraich, as confirmed by officials on Friday. The incidents occurred in Katarniaghat and the Bahraich forest division, with a leopard and suspected wolves being the perpetrators.
Shiv Shankar, the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Katarniaghat, confirmed the leopard attack involving a 13-year-old girl named Sahiba from Ayodhya Purwa and 35-year-old Madhusudan from Harkapur. Sahiba's mother, Sabina Khatoon, recounted that the attack happened late at night as the leopard pounced on Sahiba outside their home. Despite the family's efforts to intervene, the leopard managed to inflict injuries before fleeing.
Sahiba was later transferred to a hospital in Lucknow for advanced treatment. In another incident, a 5-year-old girl named Mamata from Nakha village and a six-month-old infant named Rajesh from Ghumni village were allegedly attacked by wolves. Although the District Forest Officer, Ajeet Singh, could not confirm the presence of wolves, investigations revealed paw marks likely belonging to a dog. Efforts to capture the animals face challenges due to heavy rains.
