New Officer-in-Charge Appointed Amidst RG Kar Medical College Scandal

Malay Kumar Dutta has been appointed as the new Officer-in-Charge of Tala Police Station following the arrest of his predecessor, Abhijit Mondal, in connection with the RG Kar Medical College rape and murder case. Both Mondal and former college principal Sandip Ghosh face multiple charges including financial irregularities.

The appointment comes in the wake of the arrest of his predecessor, Abhijit Mondal, in connection with the RG Kar Medical College rape and murder case. An official order by the Commissioner of Kolkata Police confirmed Dutta's new role.

On Wednesday, both Sandip Ghosh, the former Principal of RG Kar Medical College, and Abhijit Mondal were transferred to the Presidency Jail from the Sealdah Court. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested both men in connection with the murder of a woman doctor at RG Kar Medical College. The West Bengal Medical Council has since cancelled Ghosh's medical practitioner registration, and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has initiated a search operation at his residence concerning financial irregularities.

On September 10, a CBI court remanded Sandip Ghosh and three others to judicial custody due to alleged financial mismanagement at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The CBI's investigation, initiated by the Calcutta High Court, aims to uncover corruption and financial misconduct at the institution. Abhijit Mondal was suspended by Kolkata Police following his arrest on September 14.
