The Assam government has committed to using 1951 as the cut-off year for implementing the Justice (Retd) Biplab Sharma Committee's recommendations under Clause 6 of the Assam Accord. This decision emerged from a vital meeting held on Wednesday between the state administration and the All Assam Students' Union (AASU) at Lok Sewa Bhawan in Guwahati.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma explained, 'The State Government has already begun incorporating some committee recommendations, like using 1951 as a cut-off for various schemes. This has been integrated into Mission Basundhara, and we have applied this principle for the last three years. However, the cut-off date of 1951 is not a general benchmark for daily life.'

Dr. Sarma emphasized that '1951 is the cut-off for specific recommendations and is incorporated into land-related bills as representing three generations. Implementing these recommendations includes 1951-specific criteria for defining 'Assamese People' based on pre-1951 roots.'
