Maligaon (Assam) [India], September 27 (ANI) — The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) is making significant strides to promote tourism in the Northeast by broadening its network, ensuring improved travel safety, and rolling out tourism-friendly train services.

According to an NFR press release, one of the pivotal initiatives is the introduction of tourist trains featuring Vistadome coaches. To date, five such trains have been launched in the Northeast, allowing passengers to take in scenic views en route to locations such as Haflong, Badarpur, Jorhat, Agartala, Naharlagun, and the Dooars region of North Bengal.

NFR has also added Narrow Gauge Vistadome coaches to the renowned joyride trains of the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (DHR), which holds UNESCO World Heritage status. Additionally, NFR has launched 'Bharat Gaurav' trains to spotlight India's cultural heritage and stunning landscapes, with a 14-coach rake dedicated to this venture. Station amenities have been upgraded with new retiring rooms, executive lounges, and rail coach restaurants to further enhance the tourist experience.

Taking tourism promotion a step further, NFR has developed a picturesque tourist hub at the Brahmaputra riverfront near Bogibeel Bridge in Dibrugarh, featuring river cruises and a floating restaurant. Special festival trains and group block bookings are also being offered to connect key tourist destinations. NFR's multifaceted efforts aim to make the Northeast an accessible and enticing destination for tourists globally.
