Delhi's Patiala House Court on Thursday requested a medical report from Rohini Jail following allegations by Ranchi doctor Ishteyaque Ahmed that his eardrum was damaged due to physical torture during police custody. Ahmed is an accused in the AQIS Training Module case and in judicial custody with ten others.
Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) Dr. Hardeep Kaur has scheduled a hearing for Friday, based on an application by Advocate Abu Baker Sabaq. The application highlighted Ahmed's severe health issues, including high blood pressure, due to inadequate medical care.
The plea emphasizes the urgent need for appropriate medical support, particularly for high blood pressure, spinal pain, and a damaged left eardrum caused by alleged physical abuse. It also seeks permission for Ahmed's family or advocate to provide prescribed medicines. The court extended the judicial remand for the 11 accused until October 9.
The accused, led by Dr. Ishtiyaque Ahmed of Ranchi, are suspected members of an AQ-inspired training module. They were arrested in August during a coordinated operation by Delhi Police and State Police from Jharkhand, Rajasthan, and UP, aimed at curbing potential terrorist activities. Weapons and literature, including an AK-47 rifle, were seized.
