Chile's government has strategically identified six priority areas for new lithium extraction projects to be spearheaded by private companies, the country's mining minister revealed on Thursday.
In October, the government will initiate consultations with indigenous communities residing near these proposed sites, primarily salt flats, while proposals from private firms must be submitted by Dec. 31, explained Mining Minister Aurora Williams.
The move underscores Chile's commitment to leveraging its lithium resources to meet global battery demands while ensuring local community engagement.
