The South African maize harvest for the 2023/2024 season is projected to drop by 22%, according to the government's Crop Estimates Committee (CEC). The CEC's eighth summer crop forecast anticipates the 2024 harvest to total 12.8 million metric tons, a significant decrease from the previous season's 16.43 million tons.

In a previous estimate issued on Aug. 28, the 2024 maize harvest was predicted to be 13.06 million tons. This latest revision underscores a sharper decline.
